1 Chronicles 22
This is the house of the LORD God. The place where grace had been manifested was the place where alone true worship could be offered. This it is that makes "the house of God". labourers David had prepared in 2 Samuel 12:31. Compare 1 Samuel 8:2. 1 Kings 5:13; 1 Kings 9:15, 1 Kings 9:22; and see Deuteronomy 29:11. Joshua 9:27. The word "tribute" (Judges 1:28) means forced labour. Compare 2 Samuel 20:24. 1 Kings 9:21.
masons. See above note.
young and tender. Compare 1 Chronicles 29:1.
of fame and of glory. Figure of speech Hendiadys (App-6) = of glorious fame.
throughout: or for. Compare Isaiah 56:7.
give thee wisdom. This was Solomon's prayer in 1 Kings 3:5-15.
the law The whole Levitical code.
the statutes and judgments., Exodus 21:1, Deuteronomy 4:1.
be strong, and of good courage. See note on Deuteronomy 31:7.
in my trouble: i.e. in the unsettled years of his warlike reign; and of the trouble brought on by his sin with Bath-sheba, and by Absalom's rebellion. The Septuagint reads "according to my poverty".
prepared for the house. The Tabernacle was built with the spoils of Egypt: the Temple from spoils of David's wars (2 Samuel 8:7-12. 2 Samuel 18:7-11).
workmen. See note on "strangers", 1 Chronicles 22:2 above.
cunning = skilful. Compare Exodus 26:1. One of the words which have been degraded in meaning, through the fall of man. Cunning = knowing; but those who know, generally know too much.
your soul = you (emph.) Hebrew. nephesh. App-13.
God. Hebrew. Elohim.(with Art.) = the [true] God. App-4. t
he ark. See note on 1 Chronicles 13:3.
holy. See note on Exodus 3:5.
is to be built. And thus supersede the Tabernacle.
