Arthur Peake's Commentary on the Bible

2 Chronicles 3

Clinging to a Counterfeit Cross
Verses 1-17

2 Chronicles 3:1 to 2 Chronicles 5:1. The Building of the Temple and its Equipment (see notes on 1 Kings 6, 1 Kings 7:13-51).—What was said in reference to the preceding section applies also to this one. The Chronicler omits all mention of Solomon's other buildings, his interest being centred on the Temple; he has, on the other hand, many additions not found in 1 Kings.

2 Chronicles 3:1. mount Moriah: cf. Genesis 22:2*; this name for the Temple mount does not occur elsewhere in the OT.

2 Chronicles 3:6. Parvaim: perhaps the Hebrew name of a gold-mine in north-east Arabia called el-farwain.

2 Chronicles 3:10. image work: the meaning of the Hebrew word is quite uncertain; the LXX "of wood" is a mere guess, based probably on 1 Kings 6:23, where the cherubim are stated to have been made of olive wood.

2 Chronicles 3:14. No mention is made of a veil in 1 K.
