See lecture on “Messianic Predictions.” In verse 14 the virgin birth of Christ is announced. Much of the controversy is around the word “virgin” (almah), which the critics declare does not mean a virgin but a young married woman. However, they err. In Genesis 24:43, Exodus 2:8, Psalms 68:25, Song of Solomon 1:3, etc., the same word is used, and it means “virgin” in these and other passages. The Septuagint, a Greek translation of the Old Testament made some 300 years B.C., translates the Hebrew “almah” with “pardenos,” the Greek for virgin.Matthew 1:23 confirms this Messianic prediction.
