Deuteronomy 19
As when. Figure of speech Synecdoche (of Species), App-6, one example put for every kind.
head. Hebrew = Iron.
helve = handle. Hebrew = wood, which may mean the handle or the tree.
avenger = kinsman avenger.
slay him = slay his soul. Hebrew. nephesh (App-13), i.e. take his life.
this day. See note on Deuteronomy 4:26.
add. Done by Joshua, Ch. Deuteronomy 20:7, Deuteronomy 20:8.
blood = guilt. Figure of speech Metonymy (of Cause), the blood shed put for guilt incurred.
man. Hebrew. "ish. App-14. Case of presumption.
hate. Compare Exodus 21:14.
smite him mortally = smite his soul. Hebrew. nephesh (App-13) = take his life. Compare Deuteronomy 19:6.
not remove. Compare Deuteronomy 27:17. Hosea 5:10. Proverbs 22:28.
landmark. Not to be removed: but ""stumbling-blocks" to be taken out of the way". Leviticus 19:14. Isaiah 57:14. Romans 14:13.
before. Some codices, with Samaritan Pentateuch, Septuagint, and Syriac, read "even before".
eye. Figure of speech Prosopopoeia (App-6).
life = soul. Hebrew. nephesh. App-13. Compare Exodus 21:23-25.
