So Saul died. Compare 1 Chronicles 10:13, 1 Chronicles 10:14. Here, history from human standpoint; in Chronicles, God's standpoint, and reasons of the history. See notes on 1 Chronicles 10:13, and App-55. If Saul was thirty years of age when anointed, he would now be seventy; and Jonathan fifty-three or fifty-four. See note on 1 Samuel 13:1.

his body. This is additional to 1 Chronicles 10:10; and "his head", there, is additional to 1 Samuel 31:10. The two books and accounts are independent, supplementary, and complementary by Figure of speech Hysteresis (App-6). See App-55.
Beth-shan. It had remained Canaanite, and therefore friendly to Philistines (Judges 1:27).
