the LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4.
whom. Some codices, with three early printed editions, read "or whom", thus preserving the Figure of speech Paradiastole (App-6) throughout verses: 1 Samuel 12:12, 1 Samuel 12:3 and 1 Samuel 12:4.
Jacob. Compare Genesis 46:6, Genesis 46:6.
sent. Compare Exodus 4:16.
made = He caused. So Aramaean, Septuagint, Syriac, and Vulgate.
and Bedan. The Septuagint, Syriac, and Arabic read "and Barak" (the names being much alike in Hebrew). and Samuel. The Peshito (or Revised Syriac) reads "and Samson". But, if "Samuel", these are not Samuel's words, but Jehovah's in Samuel's mouth.
ye saw. Figure of speech Hysteresis, or Hysterologia (App-6), by which a prior event is recorded later. children-sons.
send. It had to be sent, for rain in harvest was most exceptional; and would be regarded as sent in judgment. Compare Proverbs 26:1.
wickedness. Hebrew. raa ". App-44.
Pray. Moses and Samuel specially named as intercessors. Psalms 99:6. Jeremiah 13:1.
evil. Same word as "wickedness" above.
will not forsake. Compare Genesis 28:15. Joshua 1:5. Quoted in Romans 11:1, Romans 11:2.
His People = a People for Himself.
